2017-18 Board Members
Jim Fogg (Chair) is an associate with Ogborn Mihm, LLP. His practices primarily in the areas of business litigation, personal injury, and legal malpractice. Previously, Jim worked for a renowned Denver litigation firm and clerked for the Hon. James S. Casebolt on the Colorado Court of Appeals. Jim graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and graduated in 2014. During law school, he was a member of the National Trial Team, served as an Articles Editor for the Water Law Review, and advocated on behalf of clients in DU’s Environmental Law Clinic. He received his undergraduate degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder. In his spare time, you will find Jim spending time with his wife, Becca, fly-fishing a mountain stream with his dog, Gus, or searching for his golf ball. Contact Jim Fogg.
Jill Mullen (Chair Elect) is the Civic Engagement Director for the Colorado State Senate Minority office. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Jill earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from New York University and her law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. When she is not working at the Capitol, Jill can be found restaurant hopping around Denver, skiing, climbing a 14er or traveling. Contact Jill Mullen.
Klaralee Charlton (Immediate Past Chair) is an associate with Katz, Look & Onorato, P.C. where she practices in their tax and estate administration divisions. Originally from Montana, Klaralee earned her Bachelor of Arts degree at Bryn Mawr College. She graduated from the University of Utah, S.J. Quinney College of Law and received her Masters of Tax from the University of Denver. In her spare time, she enjoys walking her dogs, creating healthy recipes, and watching classic “Frasier” episodes. Contact Klaralee.
Matt Deegan (Secretary) is an attorney with Brown & Kannady, LLC. His practice focuses on franchise law, and related interdisciplinary practice areas including trademark prosecution and other intellectual property matters, commercial real estate, and general corporate and commercial law. In addition to helping clients navigate various types of transactions, Matt represents clients in commercial litigation matters, Originally from White Plains, NY, Matt grew up throughout the tri-state area prior to majoring in political science at Northeastern University. Matt earned his law degree from the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law. While in law school, Matt was the managing editor of the Denver Law Review and was a member of Denver Law’s National Baseball Arbitration team. Matt has continued his involvement as the team’s coach. Outside of work, Matt enjoys skiing, attending Rockies games, and exploring Colorado’s vibrant brewery scene. Contact Matt.
Joey Mark (Treasurer) is an appellate law clerk for the Honorable Terry Fox at the Colorado Court of Appeals. Joey has worked at the court since graduating from law school at the University of Denver in 2015. During law school, Joey was an articles editor for the Denver Law Review. Before law school, Joey spent a couple of years teaching ski school and chasing powder days at Jackson Hole in Wyoming. Joey grew up in Centennial, CO, and attended DU for his undergraduate studies. In his free time, you will find Joey skiing throughout the winter, traveling when time allows, and seeking new adventures year-round in the mountains and around Denver with family and friends. Vanya Akraboff currently works as a law clerk for Justice Coats with the Colorado Supreme Court. Originally from San Francisco, California, she completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Washington, and spent several years enjoying the mountain life in the Lake Tahoe region before moving to Colorado for law school; she graduated from the University of Colorado Law School in 2015. In her free time, she enjoys getting outside and taking on mountain activities with her dog, international travel, reading, and supporting Denver’s growing restaurant scene. Contact Vanya.
Matthew Broderick is a trial attorney at Fennemore Craig with a civil litigation practice in the areas of personal injury and business torts. His focus is professional negligence defense, including medical malpractice. Away from work, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife enjoying a night out in Denver, or catching a Broncos or Rockies game. Contact Matthew.
Courtney Butler is an associate attorney with the Joseph Law Firm, where she exclusively practices immigration law. She joined the firm after a three-year stay in Vermont, where she primarily practiced land use and environmental law. Prior to moving to Vermont, Courtney clerked with the Colorado Court of Appeals. She graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2010. While in law school, Courtney was active with the Spanish Speaking Lawyers Association, the Denver University Law Review, the Chancellor’s Scholars, and the Academic Achievement Program. As a Colorado native, Courtney enjoys long distance running, hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, ultimate Frisbee, and international travel. Contact Courtney.
Robin Hoogerhyde is a senior appellate law clerk to the Honorable Dennis A. Graham at the Colorado Court of Appeals. Since graduating law school from Michigan State University in 2008, Robin worked at the Court of Appeals for a variety of judges before accepting her permanent position with Judge Graham. During law school, she was managing editor of the Michigan State University Law Review where she published her student note. Prior to attending Michigan State, she graduated from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey and she was raised in Massachusetts where her parents, sister, niece, and nephew still reside. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with her husband Ross and her dachshund Max, watching countless reruns of “Archer” and “Bob’s Burgers,” and attempting home projects. Contact Robin.
Laura Liss advises on franchise, general commercial, real estate, and trademark transactions and litigation matters, including preparing and reviewing franchise disclosure documents, buying or selling a business, commercial real estate and contractual matters, as well as trademark litigation. Laura graduated from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and attended Tulane University in New Orleans for her B.A. after growing up in the Chicago area. Outside the office, Laura enjoys scenic hikes, cooking, and committing her free time to leadership positions in a bar. Contact Laura
Arthur M. Loyd is General Counsel and Due Diligence Analyst at Buttonwood Investment Services, LLC. He represents the company in the analysis of non-traded alternative investment securities. He previously worked in civil litigation in the Denver area. Arthur graduated from the University of Tulsa with a combined J.D./M.S. in Corporate Finance in 2012. Arthur grew up in Oklahoma, with a four-year stint living in Belgium and Zaire, and has always been committed to local public service through various organizations. He enjoys climbing, biking, skiing, and just being outside, and hopes to bring young lawyers together in their enjoyment of what Colorado offers. Contact Arthur.
Dan Zarnowski is an associate with the Law Office of Alexandra White, P.C. in Centennial where he practices family law. Born in Chicago and raised in Connecticut, Daniel Zarnowski moved to the Denver metro area after graduating magna cum laude from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami. Prior to entering law school, Daniel was an aviation structural mechanic in the U.S. Navy, serving for five years and through three combat deployments abroad the Dwight D. Eisenhower CVN 69. Outside of work, Daniel is an avid golfer and likes to spend weekends in hiking in beautiful Colorado with his wife and dog. When at home, Daniel enjoys cooking and there are very few things he will not eat! Contact Dan.
Katherine Madden is in her second year of law school at the University of Denver – Sturm College of Law. Originally from Montana, Katherine earned her undergraduate degree at Boston University. In her spare time, she enjoys international travel, exploring Colorado, and researching genealogy. her favorite place that she has visited is Nice, France. Contact Katherine.
