A Message From Your Chair Klaralee Charlton
My New Year’s resolution four years ago was to attend one bar association event a month. I still vividly remember that first Barrister’s After Hours I attended at The Corner Office. I was nervous. I didn’t know anyone. It seemed like everyone else knew everyone. And all I wanted to do was down my drink and leave.
But the appetizers were particularly good, so I stayed for the presentation by the Wheels of Justice Cycling team. After the presentation, I forced myself to appear interested and asked one of the cyclists some follow up questions. Four years later, I see that cyclist, Emma Garrison, every month at the Denver Bar Association’s Board of Trustees meeting.
I share this story to let you know that we’ve all been new at some point and apprehensive to venture out of our comfort zone. Everyone has to take that first step someday. Today is just as good as any other day. If you’re a new member of the Bar, we’re eager to meet you. If you haven’t attended an event for a while, re-join us and let us know how we can get you further involved.
Make 2017 your best Bar Association year ever! You’ll be surprised by the doors it will open.
