Spotlight: Q & A

Where are you from? Austin, Texas

Where did you go to undergrad and law school? I did my undergrad at NYU and I recently graduated from DU Law

Where are you working and what is your practice area? I work for the Colorado State Senate Minority office as the Civic Engagement Director. My practice area is government relations, but I mostly work on policy and communications.

What led you to that practice area? Everything – my parents are politically active, I worked on campaigns all through college, and I went to law school wanting to write laws.

What do you like best about that practice area? I like that my job is social. I enjoy meeting with lobbyists and stakeholders on legislation or talking with constituents at town halls. I also manage all the legislative aides and interns and enjoy being their mentor and confidant.

What organizations are you involved in?  Colorado Young Democrats

Outside of the law, what are your hobbies? Started skiing in Crested Butte when I was young and haven’t missed a ski season yet. In the summer, I love summit hikes, runs, and trying new CO beers. Recently, I started biking so I am rounding off the stereotypical CO hobbies.

What are you passionate about? Politics – but if I had to pick one issue, it would be women’s health.

Any advice for other, young lawyers? Don’t dread networking opportunities, some of my best professional relationships are with people I was introduced to through networking.

If you weren’t a lawyer, you’d be? Emu rancher.

Favorite Denver restaurant: Hands down, Potager

Favorite Spot in Colorado: Steamboat Springs: good restaurants, good hiking, great skiing, AND they have a whole festival devoted to wine.

Last movie you watched: The Big Short – and I absolutely recommend it.

Favorite law school memory: Law review, all of it. Well, mostly the celebrations after deadlines.

On your desk right now: Dinosaurs

Most random job you have ever had.  Worked for an event planning start up in NYC for a couple months and used it as an excuse to go to fun venues around the city and call it “work research.”
