Meredith Van Horn

Where are you from? Chester Springs, PA a small town in horse country about an hour west of Philadelphia.

Where did you go to undergrad and law school? I went to Boston College for my BA, American University for my MA in Global Environmental Policy, and Pace Law School for my JD and Certificate of Environmental law.

Where are you working and what is your practice area? I work for the Douglas County Attorney’s office and I am in general municipal practice doing everything from tax appeals to child welfare work.

What led you to that practice area? My first job was working in a very small firm doing municipal and land use law and I truly enjoyed the diversity of working for a local government.  When Douglas County posted a job for an Assistant County Attorney I knew it was a great opportunity to increase my knowledge and gain great experience.

What do you like best about that practice area? The diversity; I do a variety of things every day.

Outside of the law, what are your hobbies? I enjoy running with my doggy Duchess, hiking, bird watching, skiing, going to the theater and ballet, traveling, gardening, and reading.

What are you passionate about? I am passionate about protecting our environment, animal welfare, and women’s rights.

Any advice for other, young lawyers?  If you want anything, whether it’s a job or a promotion, you have to go and get it. Nothing will ever be handed to you.

If you weren’t a lawyer, you’d be?  An ecologist.
