Call for Applications: Judicial District and Supreme Court Nominating Commissions

Commissioners are volunteers and serve six-year terms, interviewing and nominating applicants for judicial vacancies. Non-attorneys are appointed by the Governor; attorneys are appointed by the Governor, together with the Chief Justice and the Attorney General. Applications will only be accepted through October 31, 2015. Applications must be made online at the State of Colorado Boards and Commissions Application page.

The following 34 vacancies will be available as of December 31, 2015:

 

  • The Supreme Court Nominating Commission will have one non-attorney vacancy; the appointee must live in the Fifth Congressional District.
  • The 1st Judicial District (Gilpin and Jefferson Counties) will have one attorney vacancy; the appointee must live in Gilpin County.
  • The 2nd Judicial District (Denver County) will have one attorney vacancy.
  • The 3rd Judicial District (Huerfano and Las Animas Counties) will have two attorney vacancies.
  • The 4th Judicial District (El Paso and Teller Counties) will have four vacancies, one for an attorney and three for non-attorneys. No more than two appointees may be registered as Democrat; no more than three may be registered as Republican; and one must reside in Teller County.
  • The 5th Judicial District (Clear Creek, Eagle, Lake and Summit Counties) will have two vacancies, one for an attorney and one for a non-attorney. No more than one appointee may be registered as Democrat.
  • The 7th Judicial District (Delta, Gunnison, Hinsdale, Montrose, Ouray and San Miguel Counties) will have three vacancies, one for an attorney and two for non-attorneys. No more than two appointees may be registered as Republican; one appointee must be from Gunnison County and one from San Miguel County.
  • The 8th Judicial District (Jackson and Larimer Counties) will have three vacancies, one for an attorney and two for non-attorneys. No more than two appointees may be registered as Democrat and no more than two may be registered as Republican.
  • The 9th Judicial District (Garfield, Pitkin and Rio Blanco Counties) will have one attorney vacancy.
  • The 10th Judicial District (Pueblo County) will have one non-attorney vacancy.
  • The 15th Judicial District (Baca, Cheyenne, Kiowa and Prowers Counties) will have one attorney vacancy.
  • The 16th Judicial District (Bent, Crowley and Otero Counties) will have two vacancies, one for an attorney and one for a non-attorney.
  • The 17th Judicial District (Adams and Broomfield Counties) will have three vacancies, one for an attorney and two for non-attorneys. No more than one appointee may be registered as Democrat.
  • The 18th Judicial District (Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert and Lincoln Counties) will have two vacancies, one for an attorney and one for a non-attorney. No more than one appointee may be registered as Republican.
  • The 19th Judicial District (Weld County) will have two non-attorney vacancies.
  • The 20th Judicial District (Boulder County) will have two non-attorney vacancies.
  • The 21st Judicial District (Mesa County) will have two vacancies, one for an attorney and one for a non-attorney. Only one appointee may be registered as Republican.
  • The 22nd Judicial District (Dolores and Montezuma Counties) will have one non-attorney vacancy. The appointee may not be registered as Republican.
